Here’s a 3D scan of Newmarket jubilee clock tower I completed today, which I am thinking about incorporating into a then and now video of Newmarket. There seem to be enough old photos of the clock tower to make a video of that alone. Lets see how it goes!

Here’s the new video of the fine city of Ely, Cambridgeshire, taking in old and new photos of Station Road, Castlehythe, Broad Street, Annesdale, Waterside, Forehill, Market Place, High Street, St Marys Street, Tower Court, The Gallery, Barton Road and of course Ely Cathedral!

All the old photos were collected up from the ‘Your Ely’ facebook page  and ‘Ely Cambridgshire Old Photos’ facebook page.

We should definitely bring awnings back – Pizza Express have the right idea! The old black/white photo was found on the Your Ely facebook page here, and they put it at somewhere between 1890 and 1910. Identifying the distinctive looking car on the left might help pin it down. My colour photo was taken on 26th March 2017, after a failed attempt on 23rd March 2017 when I hadn’t realised that the photographer was actually squatting down for this shot. It makes a lot of difference!

Don’t know the date of the old black/white photo, taken from the Waveney Valley … way back when facebook group. My colour photo was taken on 26th February 2017.

What’s obvious now, but wasn’t when i was lining the picture up on the street (too busy looking out for traffic coming from behind), is that two fifths of what is now the Cardinal’s Hat (was it always?) is no longer there. I have no idea when that happened, but it was sometime between now and a long time ago.

Fun things to notice are the little shop in the old photo is now a garage, and the house that it was attached to is now a shop! Also the lone big house on the left of the old photo is still there, and now a couple of newer but very similar houses have also popped up, although you can’t see them behind the lovely pink blossom.

Also on Fordham Road, just outside the cemetery, I’m sure the stone gate posts have become more slender?

And on the opposite side of the road, sadly unicycling is no longer practical since the introduction of the speed bumps.

Fun things to notice are the new brick skin built on the building to the left, and has the pavement level really increased that much or did they drop the bay window down at some point?
